Pssst ... I'm going to let you in on a little secret ...
The people with the best jobs in the world didn't "get" them, they made them.
If you're reading this right now, chances are, you're someone who is never going to experience a deep sense of fulfillment from a typical J-O-B.
I feel you on that one, and the truth is, every major job I've had since college has been a position I've more or less "invented" – whether freelancing or as an employee, I'm usually the first person to do the things I do for my company or for my clients.
So what does it take to be a trailblazer on your own career path ?
First of all, it's going to take courage.
When I say courage, I don't mean flashy, loud, and "faster than a speeding bullet"... I'm talking about that quiet, contemplative courage. The deep strength it takes to listen to your inner voice, to navigate by your own compass.
(Did you know the English word "courage" is related to the French word "coeur" – meaning heart? It's true!)
Not everyone is called to strike out on their own – but many who stay with the crowd are doing so because they haven't found the courage to imagine an alternative. If you've allowed yourself to dream, or even to acknowledge that there's something more you were meant for, believe me, you've already taken a huge step.
And of you've taken those first steps and gotten stuck there – don't worry!
Keep listening to your inner voice, and keep allowing your imagination to play, because ...
Secondly, it's going to require a shift in perspective.
Most of us have been raised to identify our gifts and talents with our sense of self – and so by extension, if we are struggling with self-doubts or misplaced humility, or even a genuine dislike for the limelight, it becomes easy to sabotage our work as we play with questions such as,
- Is this work really valuable?
- What if I step out with my message, and it's not well received?
- What if I don't have what it takes to stand out as an authority in my field?
All of these questions are understandable, but I have another one for you:
What if you're not the original source of your Great Work, but simply the trustee?
What if you've been purposefully invested with just the right ideas, just the right combination of talent and lived experience, just the right amount of passion, all so that you can provide a deeply needed service to the world?
If that's the case...
Then who are you not to show up for this work ?
If you, like me, have come to view yourself as the trustee of a great work, and you've listened to that quiet but insistent voice for long enough ...
If you're ready to roll up your sleeves, work through your fears, and step into the world to serve ...
Or if you know the work you're already doing has potential to make a much bigger impact ...
Then you've come to the right place!
I've created a set of strategy packages to meet you right where you're at, wherever that may be.
